Understanding how to rent a home in Wales

Searching for a property to rent and moving into a new home can be an exciting time but equally, it can be quite daunting and confusing, especially if you have not rented a property before or if it is a long time since you last moved home in the rental sector.  You may have been reading in the press or have heard from family and friends that the law around letting homes in the private rental sector in Wales has changed in the last couple of years and you may be out of touch with how to find your next home.

To help you get started in your new home search, Rent Smart Wales have compiled a series of guides to assist contract holders (tenants), including a Tenant Guide which is invaluable to anyone currently renting or looking for a house or flat to rent. The Guide provides a comprehensive list of a tenant's rights and responsibilities at every milestone in your tenancy.

Rent Smart Wales was established by the Welsh Government to assist those who let or manage properties in Wales to comply with their legal obligations and is responsible for landlord and rental property registration and licensing of landlords and agents. The aim of RSW is to improve property standards, management practices and relationships between landlords, agents and tenants.
